In 2023, agt underwent an extensive redesign: a rebranding aimed at creating a modern image in keeping with the spirit of the company and the tradition of the Schlatermund / Thies families. This renewal process led to the birth of 'agt - agency for global transport'.
AGT Busvermietung & Touristik GmbH is seizing the opportunity and undergoing extensive restructuring, which will place the company on an equal footing in both the private and business sectors. Started in 2004 as a family business, AGT has been able to establish itself in the tourism sector in the past. In the years that followed, the business sector played an increasingly important role within the company, which is why AGT Busvermietung & Touristik GmbH became AGT Bus- & Eventlogistik GmbH.
AGT Busvermietung & Touristik GmbH makes a strategic move from Hamburg-Harburg to offices in the heart of the Hanseatic city, Hammerbrook. A move that marks the beginning of a comprehensive restructuring. Having started out as a travel company, the business customer segment became increasingly important, which ultimately led to the change of name to AGT Bus- & Eventlogistik GmbH. This handover not only heralded a new era, but also marked the beginning of the third generation at the helm of AGT.
André Schlatermund, marked by health problems, withdraws from the active business of AGT. In this phase of restructuring, his daughter, Heike Januzi-Schlatermund, resolutely takes over the management of the entire group of companies, including AGT Busvermietung & Touristik GmbH, Busguru and an associated real estate company. This handover marked a new era and the third generation.
With the strategic introduction of city tours into its service portfolio, the company has consolidated and further expanded its position as a versatile provider in the tourism industry.
André Schlatermund's initiative to found AGT Busvermietung & Touristik GmbH heralded a new phase in the family's entrepreneurial findery, with a wide range of services from coach travel to event management. The company's fortunes were further strengthened when Hilmar Thies, the heir to Bruno Thies' entrepreneurial spirit, joined as sales manager and authorized signatory, ushering in an era of growth and development alongside André.
After two decades, Rainbow Tours was finally sold. At the same time, Waltraut Schlatermund-Thies retired to take a well-deserved retirement, thus closing an important chapter in the company's history.
With the departure of Bruno Thies, his daughter Waltraut Schlatermund-Thies courageously took over the reins of the family business. As a qualified tourism specialist, she not only brought extensive industry knowledge but also a fresh perspective to the company management, which was reflected in the continued flourishing of the company.
The year 1981 marked the beginning of Rainbow Tours, a vision that André Schlatermund, the grandson of Bruno Thies, brought to life at a young age. With the same innovative spirit that characterized his ancestors, André recognized the opportunity to inspire a new generation for coach tourism. He introduced short trips, a revolutionary idea that took travelers to major European cities overnight to explore during the day and return home in the evening - all at an unbeatable price. Rainbow Tours quickly rose to become the seventh largest tour operator and market leader in youth travel, city breaks and summer camps, with a portfolio ranging from round trips to ski and entertainment trips and exotic long-haul tours.
Undaunted by the adversities of the Second World War and the confiscation of its vehicles, the company emerged ready to meet the travel needs of a revitalized region. The distinctive buses with trailers became a symbol of progress, while the wide range of tours offered ranged from short butter runs to extended international excursions that satisfied people's newly awakened spirit of exploration. This commitment led to rapid expansion to become one of the largest providers of coach tourism in northern Germany, supported by a fleet of over 30 coaches and a team of dedicated professionals.
With visionary determination, Bruno Thies founded the company, started with a cab service and soon revolutionized passenger transport with the construction of two 'flying silver arrows' that could carry over 200 passengers. This marked the birth of the first bus tourism company in northern Germany, which quickly established itself as the largest employer in Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg.
