Promotion to Sales Manager
14.04.2022: Janina Winkler answers a few questions about her success story. Read here how she went from trainee to sales manager:
Interviewer: Hello Janina, please introduce yourself to our readers.
Janina: I am Janina Winkler, 23 years old and live in Hamburg. I've been supporting the agt sales team as Sales Manager since spring 2020.
Interviewer: How long have you been with agt and what has your career been like so far?
Janina: I started my training as an event manager in August 2019, but I was already able to get to know the company as a sales assistant in spring 2018. So it's been over four years. I was assigned to Hilmar Thies, a long-standing employee and authorized signatory of agt, back in 2018. Since then, I've been able to learn a lot from him and benefit from his experience.
When Hilmar took over the leading position of another department and this led to restructuring, the management placed great trust in me and appointed me as an independent Sales Manager. Fortunately, I was able to take on a large number of his business customers, such as Birkenstock, Allianz and ERGO. I successfully completed my training in January 2022 and was assigned my first assistant shortly afterwards. My team now consists of three employees, which I am very happy about.

The background
Interviewer: You have made great progress during and after your training and have fulfilled all expectations. What were your expectations of the agt?
Janina: Hmm, a very good question ... I let it come to me and was pleasantly surprised. From the great projects to the responsibility you can take on here if you want to.
Interviewer: Interesting. Looking back, can you say that you made a good decision when choosing your training company?
Janina: Definitely. I was very lucky with my trainer. He did a lot for me. agt is like a big family, there are ups and downs, but they are there for everyone and have an open ear for everyone. If they notice that you are committed and motivated, they support you in every area - even as a trainee.
Interviewer: What do you particularly enjoy about your job as a Sales Manager?
Janina: Definitely the customer contact. Things were quieter here during the coronavirus pandemic. At the moment, you can see an increase in activity again. I now have more responsibility, which means I'm putting even more effort into rebuilding and maintaining the network. I look forward to going to work every day, as there are always new projects, feedback, bookings and many other exciting tasks.
Interviewer: That's good to hear. Now we come to the last question: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Janina: It's difficult to say because I couldn't even imagine becoming a Sales Manager before. Of course I wondered what would happen during my training. However, I thought that I would stay in the same team. Through agt, I learned so much and gained a lot more self-confidence. I never expected to take on responsibility so quickly and I'm grateful for that. I can still see myself in the same position in five years' time. But perhaps with a bigger team. In the best-case scenario, I'll build up even more regular customers and get bigger projects. I am perfectly happy in my job.
The guidance provided during the training enabled them to develop an independent working method.
The family atmosphere and support at agt played a decisive role in its success.
