An international logistics company is focusing on strengthening its own logistics infrastructure. agt is working in partnership with the logistics giant on a specialised shuttle service designed to optimise staff transport to its sites.
Since early 2020, an international logistics giant has been focusing largely on expanding its logistics centres across Germany and Europe. The aim is to become less reliant on parcel delivery services and to increase in-house parcel delivery – using electric vehicles, amongst other things. The logistics centres are often situated in locations that are easily accessible by road and optimised for logistics, but some are difficult for non-car owners to reach by public transport. This is where the collaboration with agt comes in.
Around ten years ago, agt took part in a tender for the Rheinberg site, which agt won thanks to a compelling concept. Over the past few years, a strong and close partnership has developed between agt and our partner, which was steadily expanded from early 2020 onwards. Employees are transported to the sites by agt’s bus partners via a dedicated staff shuttle operating on a three-shift system. With over 60 sites, each served by 3–4 buses, around 200 buses are on the road every day, carrying approximately 10,000 passengers.
Staff are collected on time from pre-arranged pick-up points and transported along a pre-determined route. Before the shift begins, the number of staff to be transported is communicated to agt by the relevant plant so that transport can be planned accurately. From the pick-up point, the journey continues directly to the plant site without any further stops, where the previous shift is already waiting to be collected. A professional team in the control centre monitors the shuttle journeys, whilst the current status can be checked at any time via the back office, which is available 24/7.
