In collaboration with our partner, we have created a well-designed on-demand shuttle service solution for the modern mobility of tomorrow. Users benefit from flexible schedules, optimized routes, and sustainable transportation solutions for their employees. The service is efficiently managed through a digital platform and real-time booking, while a fully electric fleet reduces CO₂ emissions and improves traffic flow.

What is an on-demand shuttle?

An on-demand shuttle is a modern mobility solution that flexibly adapts to passenger demand. Unlike traditional public transportation with fixed schedules, this ride-sharing service operates on flexible schedules that are optimized based on booking volume. This form of transportation offers a personalized, efficient, and environmentally friendly alternative to conventional public transit.

The service is based on a digital booking system, typically accessed via an app or website. Passengers book their ride, after which intelligent software plans and optimizes the routes. This often involves AI-powered algorithms that minimize empty trips and consolidate rides. The choice of vehicles for on-demand shuttles depends on the specific requirements of the service area.

Sustainable Mobility as a Key to Success

Another key focus of the project was its environmental aspect: By using our all-electric fleet, the company was able to significantly reduce its CO₂ emissions. According to estimates, CO₂ emissions were reduced by up to 50% compared to conventional shuttle solutions powered by internal combustion engines. In addition, the reduction in private vehicle traffic helped improve traffic flow in the city and sustainably enhance air quality.

The positive feedback from our partner company confirms that the concept delivers significant added value in practice as well. The flexibility and reliability of the service were the decisive factors in its rapid adoption. The ability to make last-minute bookings or cancellations played a major role in employees preferring the shuttle service and leaving their personal cars at home more and more often.

Technical Implementation

As part of the project, we organized our shuttle service using a specially developed app that offers users an intuitive booking and cancellation feature. Employees were able to submit their ride requests in real time, which allowed for flexible adjustments to the shuttle routes.

By integrating real-time data from public transit and bike-sharing systems, we created a seamless mobility chain that also presented users with alternatives to the shuttle when it made sense for time or organizational reasons.

Of particular value to the company was the smart route optimization, which minimized empty trips and maximized the efficiency of the shuttle service.

This route optimization—which is set to be further improved in the future through AI technologies—ensures that employees can commute between the various locations on time and stress-free without having to rely on their own cars.
