According to Statista, in 2019 there were around 56.88 million people in Germany who, according to a survey, held a car driving licence. On average, there were one to two cars per household; three or more cars per household were rather uncommon amongst those surveyed. Nowadays, everyone is aware of the effects of CO₂ emissions and greenhouse gases. The annual rise in temperature is undeniable.
This is just one of many statistics that highlight just how real the problem of climate change is. agt has therefore set itself the goal of placing a greater focus on sustainability. Many staff members work on-site at the head office. Starting here seems to be the first step towards more sustainable corporate management. Targeted projects, workshops and events are designed to encourage staff to reflect on the issue and take proactive action.
As the office building is centrally located in Hamburg-Hammerbrook, many staff members can commute by public transport. agt supports this with a subsidy towards a ‘Profi-Ticket’. Colleagues who cannot do without a car as their main means of transport are regularly invited to take part in certified driver training courses run by the ADAC. In the summer of 2021, for example, the ADAC driver safety training course took place in Hamburg for agt staff, focusing on more efficient and economical driving.
After a group breakfast and a welcome, the agt colleagues were split into pairs and asked to drive a pre-agreed route in their usual driving style. The vehicles’ on-board computers were then analysed and an individual training session was organised for each participant. What they had learnt was consolidated both individually and with a driving coach in their own vehicles.
Through sustainable initiatives, such as encouraging the use of public transport and ADAC driver safety training courses, agt raises its employees’ awareness of environmentally conscious behaviour and supports them in reducing their carbon footprint.
Joint car-sharing schemes, electric charging points on site and regular training sessions on sustainable behaviour pave the way for an even greener corporate strategy.
