Since the beginning of 2020, logistics giant Amazon has been focusing in large part on expanding its logistics centers throughout Germany and Europe. The online retailer’s objective is to become less dependent on parcel services and to increase in-house parcel shipping – among other things with e-vehicles. The logistics centers are often located in convenient and logistically optimized locations, but are sometimes difficult to reach by public transport for non car owners. This is where the cooperation with AGT Bus- & Eventlogistik starts.
A tender with potential
About ten years ago, AGT participated in a tender for the Rheinberg site, which AGT won thanks to a convincing concept. In the past years, a good and intensive cooperation developed between AGT and Amazon, which was steadily expanded at the beginning of 2020.
Passenger capacities of 10,000 employees daily
Amazon employees are driven to the locations by the bus partners of AGT Bus- & Eventlogistik by an established employee shuttle in a three-shift system. With over 60 locations á 3-4 buses, approx. 200 buses are on the road every day, transporting about 10,000 person capacities.
Sequence of an employee transport at AGT
Employees are picked up on time at predetermined hubs and transported along a coordinated route. Before the shift, the number of employees to be transported is communicated to AGT Bus- & Eventlogistik via the respective plant so that precise arrangements can be made. From the assembly point, the trip goes directly to the plant location without any further stops, where the previous shift is already waiting to be picked up. A professional team in the control center monitors the shuttle runs, while the current status can always be checked via the 24/7 accessible back office.
Advantages of an employee shuttle
For the shuttle service, AGT develops transfer concepts that are precisely tailored to the customer’s needs. For this purpose, the appropriate vehicles are provided from the extensive fleet, enabling smooth bus logistics. Location analyses, individual route planning including live tracking and GPS, flexible and prompt follow-up control and direct communication with the customer are some of the reasons why the concepts work and convince.
AGT’s thinking and actions are guided by the responsibility for achieving the jointly defined goals. The motivation is characterized by the claim to be the best team in the competition and the main contact person for the customer’s passenger transportation needs.
